Big Rigs Shine at 2013 Mid-America Trucking Show

If you’ve never been to a big-rig show, put it on your to-do list. And if you can choose only one show to get to, it should be the annual Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky. Not only will you see all the newest and biggest trucks allowed on U.S. roads, but it also offers seminars, technology, people watching and more show-and-shine beauties than your eyeballs can handle.
We attended this year’s show in March and thought you might like to see all the massive and monster trucks we found on the floor and in the parking lot. These are just some of the highlights of the cool stuff we saw. To get the full experience sights, smells and tastes you have to attend MATS yourself.

Customized big rigs are what this show is all about, but in a sea of seats, wheels, tires, service parts and other accessories it was nice to see this customized International LoneStar with modified headlights, lightweight body panels and blacked-out rims.
MATS is also about celebrities, albeit a different kind of trucker celebrity. Lisa Kelly began her professional driving career on the History Channel’s “Ice Road Truckers,” then launched into superstardom with the “IRT Deadliest Roads” spinoff. At the show she was mobbed by flustered middle-aged, balding men and tons of worshipping youngsters.
This customized Volvo pickup truck conversion was built in Dublin, Va., just 382 miles away from Louisville at the New River Assembly Plant. The truck has a 195-inch wheelbase, a 500-horsepower D13 Volvo under the hood, a Meritor RS 23186 rear axle with HD airbags and a custom crew-cab interior that includes a plasma TV, rear and side-view cameras, and a refrigerator built into custom cabinets.
As you might imagine, for folks who make their living sitting down, driver and passenger air-suspended seats are important to test. Add to that the millions of square feet attendees have to walk (close to six miles to see the entire show) and there was a lot of seat testing going on for weary showgoers.
This Freightliner Pikes Peak race truck is owned by Mike Ryan Motorsports from Santa Clarita, Calif., and although this truck has had several successful runs in the mountains of Colorado, what Ryan really wants to do is get his ChumpTrucks big-rig racing series off the ground. All of the big engine companies have huge displays at MATS: Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Power Stroke, Duramax, Volvo and International. The most interesting future technology was in the Cummins booth, where it showed a compact next-generation two-stage turbo that looked to be on par with the high-tech turbos from Audi and Porsche. Cummins was promoting a motor generator for big-rig hybrid use that could, depending on the application, save as much as 40 percent on fuel costs. No applications for either technology has been announced.
The real show at MATS is out back at the PKY Truck Beauty Championship, where hundreds of chromed and polished trucks are on display in 25 different categories. Trucks with names like Bulldog Express, Liquid Motion, Black Menace, Smooth Move and Wild Child were on display for expert judging as well as gawking by show attendees. Truckfest 2013 Animal Freesports
Truckfest has become an event the Animal WD-40 Action Sports Tour look forward to every year, big crowds and the Mercedes Benz crew always take good care of the team.
This year the guys were treated to fantastic weather and to mix things up a bit we also threw in our newest BMX rider, James Jones. James is one of the top UK BMX riders and he didn t disappoint on his first day with the Action Sports Tour; throwing out big tricks from the start that blew the crowds away, especially as the bumpy sun-baked grass was very difficult to handle and saw crashes from both Blake and Martyn. Unfortunately Blake s crash left him with a badly sprained ankle and unable to continue with the show, however, James stepped up and continued to throw out huge tricks, pulling out the shows first ever 720!
Luke Mad-gun also excelled himself this weekend; we re not sure if the sunshine had something to do with it, but he had a real energy around him and constantly pushed himself to get more new tricks into each show. The Flag is a really difficult move that requires a great deal of strength and control; Luke busted that out and it wasn t just the crowd that was cheering him on, everyone on the tour appreciated how much training he s done to get that move in the show!

1. What are processing with imported material and processing with supplied material?
Processing with imported material refers to a business mode whereby a domestic entity with the power to engage in foreign trade uses foreign exchange to purchase imported raw materials, sources, supplementary materials, accessories, parts and components, and wrapping materials(hereinafter referred to as materials and parts ) so as to process these into finished products for re-export. Processing with imported material can be categorized into 2 types: compatible custom contract on processing with imported materials and non-compatible custom contract on processing with imported materials.
Processing with supplied materials refers to the business activities in which all or part of the raw materials, auxiliary materials, spare parts, components, accessories and packaging materials (hereinafter referred to as materials and parts)are supplied by the overseas enterprise, and the operating Chinese enterprise just carries out processing or assembling in accordance with the requirements of the overseas enterprise, and charges for the processing, with the finished products being marketed by the overseas enterprise
2. What are the differences between the processing with imported material and processing with supplied material?
When it comes to processing with imported material, domestic companies shall use foreign exchange to purchase imported materials and parts, whereas in processing with supplied material, the overseas enterprises shall provide all or part of the raw materials and parts and do not take up our foreign exchange. The processing with imported materials require the domestic companies to be solely responsible for production, sales, profit, losses, as well as risks; while in processing with supplied materials, domestic companies have no ownership, do not participate in the distribution of benefits, and do not bear any economic risks.
3. What are compatible custom contract on processing with imported materials and non-compatible custom contract on processing with imported materials?
Compatible custom contract on processing with imported materials refers to domestic enterprises with the right to operate import and export sign imported materials and parts contract and corresponding export finished contracts (including different customers corresponding affiliated contract ), finished products produced with the imported materials and parts, their amount and sales flow shall be determined in the import and export contracts.
Non-compatible custom contract on processing with imported materials refers to domestic enterprises with the right to operate import and export sign imported materials and parts contracts. And the export finished contracts have not signed yet when reported to the Customs for the record, , finished products produced with the imported materials and parts, their amount and sales flow shall not be determined in the import and export contracts
4. How would the Customs supervise the non-compatible custom contract on processing with imported materials?
The non-compatible custom contract on processing with imported materials will be fixed bonded, namely, when importing the 15 kinds of goods prescribed by the State, 5% of the tax shall be levied upfront and the rest 95% shall be in bond. For other materials and parts, 15% of the tax shall be levied upfront and the rest 85% shall be in bond. After the export is completed, the extra export amount can be rebated while an overdue tax shall be paid when the export volume is less than expected.

The Volvo FM is next in line in the rapid renewal of Volvo Trucks’ product range – with the ground-breaking innovation Volvo Dynamic Steering as one of its prominent features. The truck will be launched in Europe on March 19, but it can already be spotted on public
roads as part of a competition to be the first to see the new FM.
“The new Volvo FM will provide drivers with a completely new level of handling and an innovative cab environment. Transport companies will have an efficient truck with increased flexibility,” says Claes Nilsson, President Volvo Trucks.
The Volvo FM will be equipped with Volvo Dynamic Steering, which combines a conventional hydraulic power steering system with an electronically-regulated electric motor fitted to the steering gear. The system gives the driver effortless steering at low speeds, as well as unbeatable directional stability on the open road.
