Sorting through my hard drives. Don’t think I posted these, along with hundreds more pictures too. Anyway on this day back when I had a Crown Victoria (Crown Victoria nerds/geeks/gearheads/petrolheads may see the pics below) I stopped by this elite car dealership. It was a slow day and I noticed these brand new vans were parked outside see below ->>
These vans are specially made for wheelchair users. They are also very unique as they are they’re own car company. These cars aren’t Ford, they aren’t Chevy. They aren’t Dodge, but they are an American company, and they are built in America.
The engine inside is a Ford V-8 I believe, and it uses a standard old fashioned heavy-duty truck like body on frame construction. So the engine and the construction and durability of the vehicle are similar to the old Ford Crown Victoria.
For the van’s passenger room, and built to purpose design, it is an approved for use vehicle for New York City taxicabs. One owner/driver has already purchased one, but it seems nobody else has followed suit. We have a limited amount of time to get a large variety of vehicles hacked up for use as a New York taxicab. Once the Nissan NV200 becomes available to the U.S. market, we won’t have a choice anymore, and slowly over the course of the next 3 years, every taxicab will become a nissan van. I’m not sure if these vans are an exception to that rule, due to their ability to serve wheelchair customers.
You’ll notice that these cars look like an American take on the famous London taxicab, I do not think that is a mere coincidence. The taxicab market is huge, if you can gain a reputation as the superior car for such a trade, you can make a ton of money.
However, the car is expensive, at a cost of around $50,000. Currently a Ford Focus C-Max Hybrid is also approved as a taxicab, and that vehicle comparatively costs under $30,000. also, the C-max gets 3x better fuel economy..
It’s no wonder there is only one of these vehicles in use as a taxicab here. But hey, if you really want to lose money, this was also for sale at the dealership ->
Ooooh La la.
And there was my cab, parked across the street. At the time it had 30,000 miles, or maybe 60,000, which meant it still had that new car smell. And it also had a leaky windshield, and some previous damage to the frame, so it didn’t turn quite right.
And here was a nice combination of shapes and light, near the Jacob Javits Convention Center, in the northern part of Chelsea.

A new association of associations has been formed to improve standards among global freight forwarding networks and differentiate bona-fide, high-quality logistics networks from what its founders say is a growing number of rogue networks .
The Elite Association of Logistic Networks (ELITE) was officially launched on 11 December with nine major global logistics networks as founding members and wuith a combined membership of over 3,550 freight forwarding companies around the world, with annual revenues in excess of US$60 billion.
In a statement, the ELITE founding members said: There are new networks appearing almost daily that do not have the same ideals and standards that ELITE member networks embrace. Many had dubious practices, provided poor quality services, offer unsubstantiated benefits, lacked proper financial backing and did not implement membership vetting procedures . This not only damages the reputation of logistic networks as a whole, but also creates much confusion among freight forwarders, shippers and the logistics supply chain.
ELITE aims to apply strict membership criteria to give the industry a seal of quality . It will also represent the independent freight forwarding community balongside major global industry associations, regulators and government agencies. For the first time the independent sector has a powerful and unified voice to ensure the interests of SME freight forwarders are considered.
The nine global networks to have met the qualifying criteria: Global Logistics Network, Global Project Logistics Network, Lognet Global, Project Cargo Network, Time Critical Logistics Alliance, Universal Freight Organisation, WCA Family of Logistic Networks, WCA Projects Network and Worldwide Partners Alliance.

ELITE formed to represent freight forwarders – Supply Chain Digital
A new industry body representing the freight forwarding sector launched this week, following backing from aviation trade association IATA1.
The Elite Association of Logistics Networks2 (ELITE) has announced its official launch yesterday, after the qualification of nine major global logistics networks as founding members.
According to an online statement by the association, ELITE will act as a body to represent the independent freight forwarding community by engaging with and participating alongside major global industry associations, regulators and government agencies .
Combined membership of ELITE-qualified networks comprises over 3,550 freight forwarding companies around the world, with annual revenues in excess of US$60 Billion and over 140,000 staff operating from 7,000 plus offices in 188 countries worldwide.
IATA s head of global cargo, Des Vertannes, has welcomed the formation of ELITE, stating that with the industry currently undergoing major changes it is essential that all sectors work together.
ELITE has the potential to become a powerful and potent voice for freight forwarders around the world. The size and quality of the networks within ELITE ensures that their views will be heard and taken seriously by associations, regulators and carriers. We look forward to forming a close strategic relationship with ELITE and working together to drive new efficiencies for the benefit of us all, said Vertannes.
A second key objective for ELITE is to provide the global logistics industry with visibility and clarity by differentiating bona-fide, high-quality logistics networks from a growing number of rogue networks around the world.
In a statement, the ELITE founding members said: There are new networks appearing almost daily that do not have the same ideals and standards that ELITE member networks embrace. Many of these networks operate using dubious practices, provide poor quality services, offer unsubstantiated benefits, lack proper financial backing, fail to implement membership vetting procedures and are generally unable to fulfill their stated obligations to their membership.
This not only damages the reputation of logistic networks as a whole, but also creates much confusion among freight forwarders, shippers and the logistics supply chain. By applying strict membership criteria we are able to provide the industry with a seal of quality ensuring that each network only operates to the highest standards.
The nine global networks to have met the qualifying criteria for ELITE comprise:
