Man killed in Isabella Township after being struck by pickup truck …
BROOMFIELD TOWNSHIP — The Isabella County Sheriff’s Department reports that a man is dead after being struck by a pickup truck last night. The crash occurred on M-20 just west of Sherman Road just after 10 pm, according to police. A vehicle was stopped with its hazards on and called 911 due to finding a deer lying dead in the road. Another vehicle, driven by Jaremy Stiles, age 37 from Big Rapids, stopped behind the first vehicle to see if that driver needed assistance. Stiles had shut off his vehicle lights when he went to check on the first driver. While Stiles was returning to his car, a pickup truck approached, saw the deer but not the cars, and swerved to the right to avoid hitting the deer. When the driver of the pickup truck spotted Stiles, he swerved further to his right and went into a ditch. Stiles, police say, also went into the ditch in what they believe was an attempt to avoid being hit by the pickup truck. Instead, he ran right into the path of the pickup truck and was struck and killed. Stiles was pronounced dead at the scene.
Clarke's First-Quarter Profit Declines; Trucking Unit Improves – TTNews
Canadian holding company Clarke Inc. said its first-quarter profit fell from a year ago, but its trucking segment improved.
Net income fell to C$3.1 million from C$3.7 million a year ago, while revenue slipped to C$57.9 million from C$61.1 million.
Its freight transportation segment s earning before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization almost doubled to C$1.7 million on higher margin revenue, the turnaround of the refrigeration transportation business, lower operating costs and a decrease in accidents and claims, Clarke said.
Halifax, Nova Scotia-based Clarke, which operates in truckload and less-than-truckload sectors via its Clarke Transport and Clarke Road Transport units, also has a home-heating segment.
A hidden giant: The American trucking industry by the numbers …

This summer many of us will be hitting the road and that means sharing the road with plenty of big rigs.
Though some see these huge vehicles as intimidating, some a welcome beacon in the darkness, what you might not realize is the huge contribution this industry makes to the American economy.

Love Your Bike – Manchester Friends of the Earth
A small and unnoticed change in European rules could let massive new mega-trucks which are up to 25 metres, or 80 feet, long into the UK. The European Commission, which is pushing for this change, itself admits they are dangerous, particularly for pedestrians and cyclists. The trucks also damage roads and create unfair competition for more environmentally-friendly freight-on-rail.
Some countries already allow mega-trucks on their roads but this proposal would mean they could travel between countries that agree to them. This would effectively allow mega-trucks in by the back door as they would become standard across much of Europe.
Even the European Commission research of January 2009 admitted that mega trucks are more dangerous than existing HGVs. The main reasons for increased collision risks are handling and manoeuvrability problems including snaking, larger blind spots, extra weight and size. Currently HGVs are disproportionately involved in serious accidents with other road users. In 2010, they made up about 3% of the EU vehicle feet but gave rise to 14% of fatal collisions.
The UK government has already buckled under pressure from the road haulage industry and allowed trials of 7 feet longer HGVs. We need to throw out the European Commission s proposal now before more pressure from the road haulage industry pushes the government into accepting mega-trucks in to the UK.
Please email your European Members of Parliament (MEPs) and ask them to oppose mega trucks being allowed to travel internationally to avoid these monster vehicles coming to the UK via the back door. You can contact your NW MEPs via the Write to Them1 website or directly with the email addresses below.
The Freight on Rail network has produced a useful briefing (April 2013)2 and a suggested email text3 which is also listed below.

Dear MEP
I am writing to express my huge concern about the revision of legislation governing the weights and dimensions of HGVs as I believe it will lead to bigger heavier lorries coming to the UK over time. The European Commission wants to allow cross border traffic of 25 metre (82 ft) lorries between consenting member states. What will happen is that more and more countries will be pressurised by their road haulage industry to allow these massive lorries on competition grounds.
While the UK Government says it will not allow mega trucks to come to the UK it will be lobbied by the road haulage industry which has an insatiable appetite for bigger heavier lorries. In fact the UK Government buckled to pressure from the road haulage industry in 2012 by allowing 7 ft longer lorries on our roads which are already congested and not designed for vehicles of these proportions.
Even the European Commission s own research showed that mega trucks are more dangerous than existing HGVs 1.Because of the double articulation needed for manoeuvrability in urban areas there is a serious loss of stability at cruising speeds which increases risk of snaking, for example changing lanes 2.
Previous increases in lorry dimensions have resulted in more lorries driving around less full, causing more road congestion and more pollution, which is the reverse of what was claimed would happen. The proponents of mega trucks are using the same flawed arguments again. More than one in four lorries is driving around empty and almost half of lorries in the UK are driving around partially empty so why if hauliers cannot fill existing sized lorries how would they fill even bigger ones? Hauliers tend to buy the largest vehicle permitted and use it for large and small loads irrespective of the impact on road congestion and the environment 3.
The promoters are claiming that these vehicles will be restricted to motorways, dual carriageways and major roads. However, trying to restrict mega trucks to dual-carriageways and motorways will not work; the reality is that these vehicles will need local road access to distribution hubs on local roads
Allowing mega trucks will lead to more road fatalities, more congestion and more pollution and will be disastrous for the rail freight industry which has the potential to take thousands more long distance lorry journeys off the road reducing congestion, road accidents and carbon emissions.

Watch A McLaren Owner Stop Traffic To Take A Leak
When you own a McLaren, the world is your toilet. I think that was McLaren’s ad slogan for a while there, and even if it wasn’t, it’s surely the personal mantra of the pea-bladdered urinator/McLaren MP4-12C owner in this video. I bet he has it embroidered on a throw pillow.
Now, I’m a firm believer in that having to pee while driving is downright dangerous it’s been proven, with science, even1. So I applaud the man for three things: taking the time to color-match his outfit to his car, his responsibility to make sure he’s not driving while feeling the urge to urinate, and his complete and total lack of any shy bladderism, peeing freely and wantonly right there in the open on the side of the road.
But those fine qualities aside, this guy’s a jackass. Who gets out of their car to pee while waiting in line at a light? Would he have urine-soaked the fine leather upholstery if he just moved the car three goddamn feet to the side of the road so people could pass him? I know it feels like the world stops when you really have to go, but, shockingly, other people and things outside of your own bladder continue to exist.
Plus, did he pee out all his ability to get his car in gear? I’ve heard it can happen.
Finally, of course, is the magic of Baron Urinepants’ giving the pale-armed bird to the driver behind him, the driver who he blocked from making progress while he lavishly coated a public sidewalk in rich, redolent piss. Sure, he was getting filmed, but what the hell did he expect? A man in a McLaren whipping his dick out in public and voiding really isn’t someone who should be bitching about getting unwanted attention.
So, supercar-owners with full, straining bladders, take a lesson from our humble dipshit here: pull over to pee. Ideally not right on a public sidewalk, either, but at least get out of everybody’s way.
Thank you in advance,
Humanity.
As a lifelong urinator, I like to keep up with all the latest innovations in the field. That’s Read 3

Freight Forwarding Costs
It is important for freight forwarders to negotiate freight rates regularly with transport providers and to compare the costs involved with transporting goods along different routes. This helps them to get the right balance between cost and delivery times.
Although freight forwarding is used by companies all over the world, no two operations are the same owing to the type of goods being transported and the different sets of customer requirements.
Freight Forwarding Transaction Management
Freight forwarders are entrusted with the delivery of goods from one party to another, who often do not know each other. As a result, it is essential that the freight forwarding companies follow the set procedure and prepare accurate documentation to facilitate the transaction process.
