Stop Trucking, Get on Pace | Functional Fitness on the Bluffs
In the running world, there s a term called trucking where the athlete has one gear. Whether it s a short race, a long race, hilly, or otherwise, they ll be trucking along at the same speed.
Life has its truckers, too. The problem with that is that life, like races, present all kinds of scenarios. Some scenarios demand a sprint, while others benefits most from a slow, grinding pace. I d go as far to say that there s great value in being able to toggle from running lead in the rat race, to displaying Ghandi-like patience, and owning that day-in-day-out mid range gear.
For me, I feel like I ve been on a Star Tours warp speed-like pace the last year or so. I m aware of it. I know it takes a toll, but I also know it s important right now. The one thing that has kept me in it is knowing that it s temporary and practicing living in third gear for short periods of time.
How successful are you at shifting gears? Do you notice what gear you seem to default to? Would you benefit by speeding some time living at an unfamiliar pace?

Driver responds to fatal crash, named Highway Angel | Overdrive …
The Truckload Carriers Association recently named John Lilley, of Kelowna, B.C., a Highway Angel. Lilley drives for Bison Transport out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and he tried to help save an injured man in a fatal car crash, leaning upon his medical expertise at the scene. Lilley came upon an accident, and after hearing on the CB that there was a need for volunteers with medical training, he made his way to the scene. Lilley has 23 years of experience as a volunteer search and rescue medical technician. He was asked to focus on helping the driver of the four-door passenger vehicle that had crashed after losing control entering a tunnel. The driver was bleeding internally and externally, and Lilley worked to maintain the man s weakening pulse. Despite Lilley s efforts, the driver died due to injuries. Lilley recalls the day emotionally. I tried everything I possibly could, he said. I don t regret what I tried. I know I did my best.

Trade intelligence firm offers more detailed bill of lading information on U.S. exports.
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (March 4, 2013) – Zepol Corporation, the leading trade intelligence company, announced today that they have launched phase two of their U.S. export bill of lading database, TradeIQ Export. The company launched phase one in August and, after much collaboration with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), has completed phase two. TradeIQ Export previously included export data for four carriers, but now includes data for 20 carriers. Zepol plans to add even more carriers to the database soon. EU Logistics Hub Blog Five Major Advantages of Import-Export …
By Emily Steves, Trade Facilitation and Logistics Expert
There are many factors that discourage local companies from going international and taking their goods across the world. But the benefits of international trading far outweigh its disadvantages.
The global village is growing even closer, and this has made exporting a big business that grows exponentially every year, and benefits from improved logistics and communication channels.New websites such as Verschiffung USA, an endeavour by the Canadian Port of Montreal to target the German exportation market, are a clear sign that importing infrastructures also wish to enhance their visibility all over the world. These infrastructures are important for driving growth and making the transportation of goods and services safer and more lucrative.
Your business can also gain some long lasting benefits from international trade. Importing and exporting goods can help you broaden your horizons in the following ways:
1. A Competitive Edge
Trading your products internationally can give you an advantage over competition. If the domestic market is already flooded with similar products, then overseas markets may just be the answer to better profitability. This holds especially true for products that aren t widely available overseas. As the international market for your good gets bigger, sales increase, giving you an advantage over others in your industry.
2. Economies of Scale in Production
Companies engaging in international trade experience improved efficiency brought on by the presence of economies of scale in production. This can bring about significant trade gains due to the reallocation of resources that can raise productive efficiency. Simply put, more output can be created at lower costs bringing about major savings.
3. New Markets
International trade can give you the opportunity to understand the varied market trends that can affect your business. It is common business saying that 95% of a company s prospective market is situated out of the country. And it just won t be wise to forego such a huge potential for business, leads, profits and thus business growth. So, the function of international trade is to capitalize on profitable opportunities for owners, which is the single most significant directive for corporations and many other businesses.
4. Insulation From Seasonal Domestic Sales
For business concerns that offer season specific services or products, expanding operations to overseas is a perfectly viable way of staying busy and making money all year around. And staying in business all year round is a great way of outmaneuvering competitors. International trade can introduce a company to whole new foreign markets.
5. Improved Return on Investments
Spreading your risk in foreign markets and companies means that your organization won t only be subjected to the tribulations of the U.S economy. This diversification can shield their businesses from the investment risk of putting all their eggs in one basket. Similarly, international traders are also ideally poised to take advantage of the higher than usual potential for growth of some foreign economies. It is important to do your research right to find the right emerging markets for your kind of business.
Of course, it is also important to balance these advantages against the likelihood for high costs and abrupt changes that are the special risks of investing internationally.
To conclude
International trade holds many benefits for those who are willing to put in the extra effort. As websites such as Verschiffung USA make it obvious, importing organizations are eager to make their infrastructures available to new trading partners on a global scale, which is a sure sign that the time is ripe to explore new opportunities.

Get the Best You Can from Commercial Trucking Insurance …
Whether you are an employer looking to insure yourself and several trucks for constant use or an independent contractor truck driver who needs insurance just for yourself, deciding which company to choose can be a struggle. Most of the same insurance companies that provide auto and life insurance also have insurance for trucking, but did you know there are commercial trucking insurance companies that provide coverage exclusively the truckers? Knowing who to purchase your coverage from can be a challenge because there are so many choices. The only thing that will help is knowing all the facts so you make an informed decision.
Benefit from Technology
There has not been a revolution in communication and education like the Internet since the invention of the printing press. Suddenly, everything you ever wanted to know, and a few things you wish you never had to know, are just a search engine away. Some people still find it alarming and even a little intimidating, but it is a must if you want to get the best deal possible. This is why it is important to make use of the Internet to search your options. Use terms like commercial trucking insurance companies to find exactly what you are looking for.
Shopping Around
The right choice for someone else might not be best for you. This is why shopping around is so crucial. There are a lot of commercial trucking insurance companies out there. Going with the first one you find could be a bad move. Different commercial trucking insurance companies give different kinds of discounts to different kinds of drivers. If you contract, which is the most common, you should go the extra mile to find that great deal. It is your money; do not spend it recklessly on coverage that does not meet all your needs. Remember, it is not just about being legal to drive, it is about having the coverage to protect your assets and your rights.
Having The In
What is it they say? It is not what you know, it is who you know. Unfortunately, that is true even with things like insurance. No one likes it, but if you can use influence, do it. It can save you a lot of money. If you own a trucking business and you have someone handling your PEO, you may already have an in. Many agencies that do office contract and logistics work are wired in with the commercial trucking insurance companies as well. They bring in business for each other. Knowing this can mean you get the best deal possible.

New truck finder app from Volvo Trucks | HGV Ireland
Volvo Trucks has launched an new truck finder app, making it even easier to locate a quality used Volvo truck. The new app is an extension of Volvo Trucks truck finder website, allowing users to locate used trucks from around the globe. Using the search function, trucks can be sorted by make, model, chassis and location, as well as a host of other parameters.
Once a potential truck has been found, users can browse photos as well as full details and specifications including mileage, engine output and full descriptions of the vehicle s chassis, cab and powertrain. The app also includes phone and email contacts for the dealership and a function to locate the dealer and receive instructions for driving there.
There is growing demand in the market for easier ways of finding used trucks and the truck finder app is probably the smartest way yet, claims Peter Groome, Volvo s Director of Used Trucks for the UK & Ireland. This new app means people can now search for vehicles from mobile devices and call the dealership right there and then.
The truck finder app is available as a free download from the Apple App store and Google Play.
