New Meyle radiator hose for Scania trucks
Meyle has extended its range of high-quality commercial vehicle spare parts. The latest portfolio addition is areinforced radiator hose for the Scania P, G, R T and 4 series models.
The material has been optimised in various ways to improve durability over standard radiator hose designs, Meyle says.
Meyle draws on the stringent quality standards and years of experience in manufacturing passenger car spares to engineer high-performance replacement parts for commercial vehicles too. When designing new products, their engineers prime objective is to deliver superior service life. Truck parts are exposed to particular stress, which is why Meyle has developed a reinforced radiator hose to fit the Scania P, G. R. T and 4 series models. A defective radiator hose can cause consequential damage, resulting in extended vehicle down-time.
The new hose wall is 20 per cent thicker than that of the original design. Additionally, the hose developed by the Hamburg manufacturer s engineers uses a high-quality fabric made from kevlar, a material so strong, it is employed on ballistic vests. Thanks to the material s excellent temperature resistance the Meyle radiator hose remains dimensionally stable and provides superior load-carrying capabilities.
And there are more benefits in store: Thanks to its smooth surface the hose is repellent to dust, oil and rust. Meyle also ensures high quality for the hose coupling by using a genuine Norma quick connector, which ensures excellent sealing along with quick and safe mounting.

In-road sensors weigh lorries in motion | News | The Engineer
11 April 2013
A project taking place in Norway aims to deter hauliers from overloading their vehicles by developing a system that checks and weighs HGVs whilst they are in motion.
Advanced sensors installed in the road surface, combined with number plate recognition systems, will enable the detection of far more incorrectly loaded trailers.
Scandinavian research centre SINTEF is heading NonStop, a Norwegian Public Roads Administration-commissioned project, with partners including the Norwegian Hauliers Association and the Oslo firm Ciber.
The aim of the project, now half-way to completion, is to make commercial road haulage more efficient by ensuring that only incorrectly loaded vehicles are stopped for inspection.
The technology used involves a Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) sensor system which measures the weight of the vehicle using a cable sunk into the road surface.
The sensor in the cable utilises PIEZO technology; the cable generates an electrical voltage when subjected to pressure, and in this way can record the weight of a vehicle passing over it. The information is then sent to a computer.
This technology is well established , said SINTEF s Terje Moen in a statement. However, it must be adapted and assembled to ensure optimal application and function.
The project will employ automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology to read vehicle number plates. The number plate can then be searched for in public registers where specifications such as a vehicle s permitted load will be entered.
Measured weight, data from public registers, the provisions of the statutory regulations governing technical requirements for motor vehicles, and the day-to-day practical expertise of the NPRA inspectors are then built into a decision support system that aims to help inspectors select candidates for checking.
It will also be possible to link the system to data transmitted from the vehicle itself, said Moen. A modern vehicle is installed with a brain which can measure how far it has travelled, its weight and the duration of stops it has taken along a given section of route. It is this aspect which makes the project unique in a global context.
As well as improving road safety the searchers believe that the new system will also bring considerable environmental benefits.
A vehicle which is stopped for no good reason wastes a lot of fuel accelerating to regain its normal speed , said Moen,
The project is financed by the Research Council of Norway via the SMARTRANS programme. A demonstrator will be ready for testing on vehicles this summer, and the system will be rolled out in full in the summer of 2014.
Kyle Busch Food City 250 Race Recap | Start ‘N’ Park Blog
On a cool summer Saturday night, Kyle Busch jumped behind the wheel of his No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota in search of a victory, on a short track where he has enjoyed much success. The Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) owner-driver was looking forward to his second chance of the season, to continue the winning streak he has enjoyed at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. From a 10th-place qualifying effort, the 27-year-old driver wheeled his black machine around the World s Fastest Half-Mile, reaching as high as third, to accomplish the eighth top-five finish for his young team. It was Busch s 13th top-ten result in 17 races at Bristol Motor Speedway, however, not the finish he was hoping for with his own team.
After rain showers drenched the .533-mile oval shortly before driver introductions were to start, track workers quickly dried the newly paved surface of Tennessee s famous short track, leaving green asphalt for the race event. Busch began the Food City 250 in the 10th-position and was working his way through the field, when the first of nine yellow-flag caution periods waved. The No. 54 team would pit four times throughout the course of the race, although not visiting pit road for their initial stop until lap 47 of the 250-circuit race.
The KBM team battled within the top-10 through the night, staying clear of any on-track car damage with competitors. Most of the team s focus remained with the car s handling, in particular the tires and how well the air pressures worked. I m sliding more than I have grip, described Busch early in the race. The team made good, clean pit stops all race long, only adjusting the car chassis once, with a track bar adjustment. The young owner-driver later commented, the car wants to be tight and loose, I m up out of the race track, can t make it stick where I need it.
Although he battled the feel of the car for most of the race, Busch remained near the front of the field, working among other series regulars such as Kevin Harvick, Joey Logano, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Elliott Sadler and Kasey Kahne. In the last 50 laps of the race event, Kahne and Busch enjoyed a good battle, swapping positions over the course of 40 laps, when Busch finally prevailed to maintain his top-five status.
The final two yellow-flag caution periods would bunch up the field and give the KBM leader the opportunity to advance upon green-flag restarts. Busch worked his way up to third place before crossing the start-finish line at the checkered flag.
It was a real good night for the Monster Energy Camry. All these guys they worked hard, they did a good job and we missed a little bit of something tonight kind of like last year. Our car was not as good as it was in the spring here, but we made it work. It seemed like the more we d go, we would really lose rear traction. That seemed to be our struggle point tonight. Overall, the guys did a good job and I can t say enough about how we ran we came home third. We ll take that we probably shouldn t have been that good, but I wish we were better.
Logano recorded his sixth win in the NASCAR Nationwide Series this year and 15th of his career. Stenhouse Jr. finished in the second spot, while Busch, Austin Dillon and Sadler completed the top-five finishers. There were nine caution periods for 59 laps of the race along with seven lead changes across four drivers. The No. 54 Monster Energy team remains 10th in the Owner s Point standings, 139 points from the leader.
The Nationwide Series continues action Sept.1 at the NRA American Warrior 300 from Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway. The television broadcast will start at 6:30pm EST on ESPN and on the MRN radio broadcast. Kyle Busch will make his 15th start of the season behind the wheel of the KBM No. 54 Monster Energy Camry.

The life of an Olympic athlete must be intense and exciting, especially in the run up to the London 2012 Games
The whole world is anticipating the biggest sporting event of the year which will take place in England s capital and a number of documentaries have been launched to offer an insight into the talented sports men and women
But many of the athletes will attain attributes which can be likened to a vehicle such as power, determination, speed and endurance; and these videos will offer a guide into the comparisons
The films, which have been published on YouTube, focus on an Olympic or Paralympic athlete from the BMW London 2012 Performance Team and they can be watched below or by clicking here
In support of the London Games, the documentaries explore what it really takes to deliver the ultimate performance on the world stage be it swimming, gymnastics or more. Form and Function This documentary by Richard D Argues discovers the tensions between delivering both aesthetics and technical ability in British gymnast Louis Smith s preparation performance as he aims for gold
And it learns of the equivalents with the development of the new BMW i8
