Another carrier added to cross-border trucking program

A fourth Mexican commercial truck carrier has been added to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration s cross-border trucking pilot program, showing that commercial truck traffic between the two North American neighbors is growing.

Transportes Del Valle De Guadalupe of Baja California will operate one truck and one driver beyond the commercial border zone, as have the other three program participants, according to TruckNews.com The cross-border program was put into place in an effort to ease the border crossing process for commercial trucks, especially as the commercial truck industry experiences rapid growth on both domestic and international bound shippments.

U.S.-Mexico surface transportation trade increased this year and trucking trade between the two nations accounts for nearly $400 billion and commercial trucks do 70 percent of trade between the two nations.

Trucks participating in the program receive special clearance at border crossings and are not held up by lengthy custom checkpoints. Shipping products overseas is becoming more expensive and more American companies are looking to increase exports to Mexico and Canada.

The cross-border program is another sign of the federal government s commitment to commercial trucking and its belief that growth in the trucking sector is here to stay. The demand for commercial trucks continues to grow both domestically and internationally, which is one reason many job seekers are choosing a career as a professional truck driver.

Positive growth in the trucking industry is one reason why commercial trucking is a desirable career for many job seekers that are looking for long-term employment in a field that has a lot of potential for growth. The demand for drivers is huge but carriers are often looking for professionally trained drivers that understand safe driving practices and have experience behind the wheel. The Truck Driver Institute s CDL training program1 offers students the chance to be a part of the commercial trucking growth.
