Manassas Business Owner Accused of Assaulting Cab Driver …
Ed Dahlberg of Clifton turned himself in to Fairfax County Police at around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, and was served with a misdemeanor assault charge, according to Fairfax County Police.
Dahlberg is charged with assaulting a taxi driver and fleeing the scene on foot in the early morning of Friday, April 26.
The 39-year-old taxi driver, Mohamed Salim, is Muslim, and claims that Dahlberg compared him to the Boston Marathon bombing suspects and repeatedly punched him, resulting in a fractured jaw, a head injury and hearing loss.
Dahlberg denies the claims. Dahlberg is the owner of Manaassas-based Emerald Aviation1.
Salim, a US Army veteran, picked up Dahlberg at the Country Club of Fairfax2 on the early morning of Friday, April 26. The cab driver took 11 minutes of video of Dahlberg drunkenly arguing over Muslim extremism3 and provided the video to the Washington Post.
If you re a expletive Muslim flying jets into the World Trade Center, then expletive you, I will slice your expletive throat right now, Dahlberg said.
Dahlberg then knocked the phone away as Salim tried to call the police. Dahlberg then fled the scene on foot.
That may be the end of the video, but not the story.
“After the recording Dahlberg got out of the car, and (Salim) said, ‘I’m going to call 911,’ and he (Dahlberg) gets back into the car, called the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings his cousins and punched him a couple more times before running into the woods,” said Salim’s attorney Gadeir Abbas of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
Salim refused treatment at the scene, and drove himself to INOVA Fair Oaks Emergency Department.
The hospital report shows that Salim had a fractured jaw and a head injury. No specifics were available on the extent of the head injury. Salim, who also complained of pain in his right ear, was then prescribed with pain killers, which warn that he not drive or operate heavy machinery.
Abbas is working for the Commonwealth’s Attorney to get Dahlberg’s potential sentencing over the alleged assault increased by classifying it as a hate crime.
“At this point what Mohamed is focused on is seeking justice in this case through the criminal justice process, and here a local prosecutor can send a message that active acts of violence against muslims are out of place in Virginia,” said Abbas, adding that Salim is weighing options on whether to file a civil suit against Dahlberg.
Dahlberg is president of Emerald Aviation, Inc., which he founded in 1995. The Emerald website4 is currently down, undergoing “scheduled maintenance.”

The Power of Independent Trucking: Joy Division 8 Feb 1980 Univ …
In August 2006 I was approached to assist with the sourcing, cleanup and mastering of various Joy Division gigs for inclusion in the then-upcoming double-CD deluxe edition reissues. The in-between story, between first being drafted into the project and then September 2007′s Warner Brothers/Rhino release of the Unknown Pleasures, Closer and Still Collector’s Editions, is boring and not really worth rehashing.
What is relevant is that six years is a long time ago, with regards to my skill set and general knowledge of audio theory and mastering. I listen to the stuff I turned in to the band and Rhino in late 2006 and essentially cringe. Not because it’s bad, because it’s not, but with where I’ve advanced to today my 2006 work sounds amateur to these ears. And while it’s out there for the world to enjoy (and the two sets I did, for Closer and Still, all got great reviews), I can no longer listen without wishing for a mulligan.
Well, with my blog avenue, I can finally take that mulligan.

I went back to the original raw transfers from Duncan Haysom’s 1980 master cassette tapes, the very tapes on which he recorded the Joy Division gigs that we released. I started from scratch – essentially, if Warners came knocking today and asked me to master these gigs, I did what I’d do for them with the skills, techniques, secret sauces and magic I’ve either advanced or flat-out learned anew since 2006.
They are spectacular. Not to toot my own horn, but these now simply crush what was used on the 2007 releases. Even the most hearing-challenged of listeners can tell the difference, and not just by minutiae. Cymbals ring, drums go THWACK and not “thwop”, guitars slice through the murk.
If there were any justice in this world, Rhino would pull the 2007 sets off the market and reissue with these masterings. One can dream…
So we start, chronologically by performance date, with the set used in association with the Closer Collector’s Edition. Recorded by Duncan, this set from the University of London Union is a stormer. You get the still in-development Closer tracks (which had yet to be recorded by Martin Hannett) mixed in with stridently-performed Unknown Pleasures and other pre-Closer choices. You get “Dead Souls” brilliantly leading off the set, and you get “Digital” taking us out. And thanks to Duncan, it’s magically captured on C45 tape for us to enjoy 32+ years on.

Driver Killed in I-280 Crash Identified as Don Pico's Owner – Half …
The driver who died in a late night solo car crash1 on Interstate 280 Saturday has been identified as Isaac Mejia, the beloved owner of Don Pico’s and an active member of the San Bruno community.
Just after 11 p.m. Saturday, Mejia was heading north on I-280 near the interstate Highway 380 connector in San Bruno when his car slammed into a concrete wall on the freeway, the CHP said.
Mejia, 51, a longtime San Bruno resident, was pronounced dead at the scene, and investigators are trying to determine whether he died solely due to injuries suffered in the crash or for medical reasons.
Mejia grew up in San Bruno and was the son of immigrants from the Mexican state of Sonora Issac Mejia Sr. and Herlinda Mejia who opened Don Pico’s2 in 1975. The restaurant was a small operation until Mejia took over the restaurant in 1999. He brightened the look of the restaurant, updated the kitchen and added his own touch to the menu.
Don Pico’s is now an institution in the city.
Recently, the restaurant underwent another remodeling3, and the exterior of the building was updated, the restaurant was expanded in size, and a second dining room and bar were added. Mejia also adorned the restaurant with a number of antique items, including chandeliers made from Austrian crystal from the San Francisco Ferry Building, a trophy fish from Bing Crosby s private collection and a 1925 mahogany Brunswick bar from the San Francisco Cliff House an extension of his love for art and design.
Just down the street from Don Pico’s is Mejia’s second San Bruno restaurant, The Rib Shack.
In addition to being a restauranteur, Mejia was very active in the business and volunteer community. He has been involved with the San Bruno Chamber of Commerce for years, and he was a dedicated member of the San Bruno Lions Club.
At the Lions Club’s installation ceremony in June, the club honored Mejia with the Lion of the Year award4.
One of the things Mejia was always known for was his willingness to serve others.
“He was one of the most magnanimous people I’ve ever met,” said Mel Phillips, a past president of the San Bruno Lions Club. “He was willing to help everybody.”
Mejia leaves behind a wife and a daughter.

Creative Crafts by Lynn: Trucking Along
Thought I’d share a quick birthday card using the sketch from Simply Stampin Challenge The image is from Countryside (SU) and sentiment from Watercolor Trio (also SU). Pretty CAS as I feel guys just don’t like a lot of foo-foo on their cards. I DID color the truck this time (ugh!)……last time I think I just colored the apples but decided to give it a go on coloring this time. Yikes – a lot more practice is needed I’m afraid! I colored it with Prisma’s – and it’s a little like a work of art – if you stand really far back from it, it actually looks pretty good! LOL!
I’ll enter this in the challenges at not only Simply Stampin Challenge1 for the sketch, but also Cards For Men2 (Happy Birthday) and Creative Mondays 3(cards for men).
Thanks for stopping by………….and yes, I know I’m WAY overdue for a Funny Friday – so stay tuned and I’ll be back in the morning with that!!!
